Where I’m From Poem

I am from basketball, from the muddy football and, the wall ball for hour’s lacrosse.

I am from the bottom of the bottom wasn’t nothing under me.

I am from the beach cool sand, the palm trees.

I am from salt fish, fresh catch and the roman noodles three minute pasta.

I am from Reunions in Jamaica and church on Sunday, from Hibbert and Grant.

I am from Caribbean dinners and as high as kings county.

From everything is everything and no body going to tie your shoes for you.

I am from Jah.

I’m from Africa the east.

From the leaving your family when you retire to go live in Jamaica.

I am from the thankful, the tall, and from the thrilling roller coasters.

Lessons learned

The many lessons I have learned are lessons that I’ll need my whole life. The first lesson I learned was how to cook, because my mom used to have to work really late and needed me and my brothers to know how to make meals on our own. Then I had to learn how to clean the house, kitchen sink over flow with plates, then the dusty floors had to be swiped clean. Then I remember when I learned to cut the grass, the wild weed would fight the blades of the mower, and the sun would be attacking me from above.

Next lesson my grandfather taught me that “everything is everything”. And to experience everything you can every day and not to waste a day. He also showed me how to use tools like the hammer, screw driver, and pliers, and there was this one time he took me and my brothers to help him fix a pipes at some ones house. The next lesson I find the most calming and challenging when my grandmother showed me how to play chess, and that makes people think more. Then I had to learn that everybody’s not for you and that everyone is just doing for them self. Those are the lessons I have learned.
